Is Your Electric Stove Failing to Heat Up?

Electric Stove Repair Tips

When it comes to electric stove repair, before you call out a professional, you should first try the following.

Replacing bad sockets or electric stovetop burners

When you find that one of your electric stovetop burners fails to heat up, the chances are it could be a bad burner, a faulty connection in the burner socket, or a problem with the switch. To find out if the problem is with the burner, change said burner with one that you know still works. However, should that burner fail to heat, then the problem is with either the burner socket or the infinite switch. Often, connections in the burner socket do burn out and fail to supply power. Check to see if the prongs look burned, and inspect the socket. Should you see that the socket looks charred or burned, then replace it. Should none of the above work, then you should call in a professional like J&H Residential Refrigeration Specialist.

CAUTION: Always remember that when working with electrics, always unplug your electric range before you work on it.

Replacing the switch

The knob that controls the stove burner temperature slides over a shaft found on the infinite switch. When this switch burns out, your burner will not receive any power. Test the infinite switch when you know for sure that the burner and burner socket are good, and the burner still refuses to heat. With your range unplugged, test the switch with a multi-meter that has been set to RX-1. When the meter reading stays the same, it means the infinite switch is bad and needs to be replaced.

A good tip when it comes to stove repair is to have all the necessary tools necessary lined up before you start, as this will save you on both time and frustration.
